^ Anon: Closer to the latter but it was a mix of 1/2 good and 1/2 bad advice. The good advice was - if you correctly identify a situation in which someone is being mean to you, then stand up for yourself. The bad advice was to take it too far and be mean while standing up for yourself.
Iron Will's actually behavior matched this mix of good and bad: Pinkie Pie and Rarity had the effect of trying prevent him from being paid, he rightly stood up for himself against them. He wrongly implemented his standing up for himself by throwing them off of a cliff into mud. From there, Fluttershy turned it into 100% bad advice by applying it to ponies that WEREN'T being mean to her, and being extra mean when standing up for herself. |

Unlike New Fluttershy, Iron Will seemed to be pretty good at recognizing situations when he is NOT being treated unfairly, when he recognized the validity of Fluttershy's reason for not paying him (good call) then left her alone instead of pummeling her. In her worst, New Fluttershy would not have made that good call. |
