He was never really a bad guy.
He taught ponies how to be assertive, then they went off and incorporated it into their daily lives. Fluttershy was sick of being a pushover for so long, that she put her heart into being assertive, and ended up taking it too far. He did say that everypony else was satisfied. He didn't even charge if you weren't. |

The catch is that anyone who his methods didn't work for wouldn't be assertive enough to refuse paying him.
It's not explicitly stated, but he might still be a creep, even if not intentionally. |
