My thoughts are that pegasus wings have three distinct multiple-jointed segments covered in feathers. Flight is possible through the use of magic that exerts the force necessary to lift the pony into the air. |

We saw on Dash's x-ray in Read it and Weep that there are bones in the "feathers" of the wings, so it makes sense they're somewhat mobile. |
