We get a goddamn two parter at the end of this season! Better than this puny gala.

i dont see the problem. season two is it's own season, it shouldn't have to compete with season one.

I don't think that's it. The unifying storyarc of season 1 was what? 3 episodes? (Ticketmaster, Suited for Success & Best Night Ever)

It's not like it was pertinent every episode.

No my theory of why season 2 has been flat is that all the episodes are SOLO episodes. One pony gets a majority of the screentime and all the other ponies play very minor roles, chipping in a line or two.

The Rainbow Dash episodes are the best examples of this.

I like both seasons but I had the added benefit of seeing all of season 1 in a few days and watching them over and over again waiting for SE02. So, I'll withhold all judgement until the season is over.

I do miss Season 1 and the early days of the Bronies after the 4chan wars, right around when Equestriadaily was made, we had content flowing through the roof.

Have to agree with ya there, I miss Twilight as the main focus, she was the main of the mane 6 anyways.

Don't get all misty-eyed on me Blaze, we've still got a lot to be happy about in this fandom.

Yeah, it feels like many Season 2 episodes are a little flat because of how they focus on single characters. Granted, some of them have been very very good (like Lesson Zero) but they don't seem to hold the same vibe as earlier episodes.

And yes, I miss Season 1 as well. That was a good time after the Great 4Chan Wars.

I'm saying that it seems there was waaaay more content in season 1, than there has been in season 2. That was when we were first finding out who we were and making our mark on the internet and world.

The GGG had 3 episodes directly related and like one minor continuity nod and 22 episodes that stand alone. So nope.

I do wish there was more continuity, though. If there's one thing hurting the show, it would be its non-serial nature. Very little characterization sticks. All we know is that they've been together for at least two years now (two winters).

We've had obvious nods to continuity in the last episode alone. Also, it's an added bonus, but not important enough to detract any quality. I find season 2 just as good, if not better than the 1st.

Personally, I think it's down to us not having as many new characters. Where's our Trixie, Gilda, Zecora, Steven Magnet, Nightmare Moon and so on? They all appeared in the first few episodes and kept things feeling fresh. It's taken a little while since that draconequus from the beginning of series 2 came about to see more faces.

But, there could be the slightest smidgen that the novelty of liking a show aimed at girls is wearing off. I hope not though, because that's what brought so many of us here in the first place.

Guys, I freaking know that not every season 1 episod ehad to do with the gala. The point is that there was an ARC, the season STARTED and ENDED with one big concept, and it kept getting closer to it as the season went along.

Those are more of references to previous episodes though, when we said continuity, we meant that they mention something along the course of the season building up to something at the end.

There's supposed to be an upcoming episode, "It's About Time", starring Twilight Sparkle. I'm willing to bet that it's a sequel to "Lesson Zero", and may tie more things together than we've realized yet.

I think it's down the there just being more weak episodes and glaring weakness in strong episodes. Not everything in the first season was gold, but nothing as weak as has been somewhat common in the second season.

Personally, I'm okay with not having season-long story arcs. Smallville is a good example of how they can get carried away with that at the expense of the individual episode's stories.

I disagree. People made too much a drama out of Season 2's quality because people put too much hype into it since Season 1.

Both were about of comparable quality and fun factor to me. Hell, maybe not even. Season 2 had a lot more flat out funny moments for me.

Overarching plot: Discord isn't actually completely sealed away, and is causing the increased havoc in Ponyville/surrounding areas.

If the rumor is true about Trixie reappearing in S2, she's Discord's apprentice, and the two-parter is the Mane6 dealing with them both. Before anyone mentions Trixie's ego, here's how it goes in my head: "Oh..so you want more power than Celestia's perfect prized pupil, hmm? Well...I -can- do that...but why stop there, eh?"

At least...that's my theory. :P
