Sudden drastic change in game mechanics, and it's usually on the tail-end of development and doesn't get as much time to tune it. It usually errs on the side of caution for the sake of players who can't figure stuff out.
If they don't do this, you get fights with frustrating and really vague mechanics, like the Time Eater in Generations. |
