I agree, Fluttershy is kinda boring. I love some of her lines and moments, but it doesn't really make it a character for me.
And even though Pinkie Pie is my favourite pony, she feels a little unreal, too - just a little too extreme. But she has so many tools to serve her function as a comic relief and deus ex Pinkie. Applejack is a simple character, but that's because she is a simple person. However, she is stubborn and even betrays her own values over it. That's typical for such a character, but it's done well. Rarity, Twilight and Rainbow Dash feel more complex. Rarity tends to lose herself in her lady act (it's just a role she feels comfortable with). I love her character because I know a few Rarity's myself and it fits so damn well on a meta level. Rainbow Dash is an ass, but one I love. She comes across as a jerk but she is actually very fair and forgiving. Being the hothead that she is, she has a hard time NOT repeating her mistakes, though. I like how she is humble sometimes. And finally, Twilight Sparkle is the nerd. Not the cliché nerd, but the one that is actually very clever and nice but is just lacking some real world experience. |
