Some router devices are hardcoded by the service provider to NOT allow unrequested incoming connections, therefore killing the seed function.
ISP's, like Verizon, have done that so they don't get sued by the media companies for playing a proxy party to copyright infringement. Don't go blaming the users for the ISP's decisions. |

Who the heck uses torrents anyways? Direct downloads > torrents. |

Not seeding is the second biggest dick move one can achieve on a torrent site. |
| Gomenasai #1079405 4 months ago |
Some torrent sites actually ban for not seeding. |

Verizon user here. They don't do that. I seeded like a monster the past year or so. |

@Spiffy Sad? Why's that? Downloading from places like Rapidshare, Fileserve, etc, is much quicker and safer than torrents. Also, torrents can get you into trouble, as seeding means you're actually sharing the file at the same time. Sharing files can technically get you into trouble, but so many people use torrents that the chance is small. |

^^ DDLs aren't always reliable. Look at what happened to MegaUpload.
And while that's an extreme example, files get deleted from DDL sites all the time, sometimes just for being inactive for a month or two. It's a lot easier to get a torrent reseeded than it is to go to /r/ and beg for an upload, especially since most request boards have restrictions on what you can request. Torrents stay on trackers forever, so if you can get a seeder to come by you're golden. I dl'd an HCG torrent that actually took over a year to finish; it was stuck for months at 99.7%, but finally some benevolent seeder showed up and uploaded the least few MB, and as thanks I've been seeding it ever since. |

^There are an incredible amount of direct download filesharing sites out there, and even if a file does get removed, I've been able to find an alternate pretty much 100% of the time. You just need to know where and how to look. ;) What happened to Megaupload is unfortunate, but it's certainly not much of a setback. I've been able to download everything I want without ever ONCE needing to use a torrent.
Over a YEAR?! Holy cheese...I'm surprised you even kept the partial files on your computer that long. |
