This was done in MS Paint?? And it doesn't look like total shit.

Well, if you want to get real technical, you can do anything with MS Paint. It'll just take you a while longer, sometimes. It's like a Turing machine for raster images. Or, the Steven Wright joke, "Anywhere is walking distance if you have the time."
I bet these gradients must've taken a good while to do. |
