I thought (any species) female can only produce milk only if they're pregnant ಠ_ಠ

I could be wrong though...

@#1072417

No, you're right. Unless you use some kind of hormone injections, I believe.

It's actually more of a "state of mind" affair.

If a female feels she needs to produce milk to feed a child(or someone else), she will.

A woman can be a surrogate milk donor and be able to lactate without being pregnant.

You know, horse milk actually is the sweetest milk of all. It's got much more lactose than most other types of milk.

.... hm, if it was Fluttershy, yes.

I mean, we humans DO drink cow's milk (as well as that of many of the other mammals, which is kind of the point/right in the name), regularly, well into adult age.

It's actually a mutation we developed as we domesticated animals: none of the others can digest lactose past weaning age. We evolved the capactiy to slow down the loss of that ability more or less indefinitley, sicne milk from farmed animals is pretty much just free energy. So, lactose intolerance is actually going back to 'normal' for the rest of the Mamillia class.

But yeh, defnition of a mammal is: "warm-blooded furred verterbate, typically live birth (exceptions: platypus, echina, and other Monotremes) that drinks milk from it's mother's mammary glands."

And, of course, we humans cheat like hell.
