As a fan of dubstep I'm unnerved that this guy's music defines the sub-genre in a lot of people's minds, as though punk rock's defining icon was Billy Idol or Green Day. :-/ |

From what I've seen to actually produce a dubstep bass wobble, yes, it does require a lot of movement and knob turning. That does not make it talentless, in fact, it means there's dynamic. No one can produce this sort of thing randomly unless its supposed to be made on the spot. As far as Skrillex, this guy didn't make every single one of his tracks as dubstep, and even started out with a more DnB sound to begin with. Whether or not you like the sound is your decision, and I certainly believe there are more dubstep artists out there that would dwarf his talents easily |

I'm with Adam with this. As far as Dubstep goes, Skrillex is utter pants. He makes the early (by comparison) sounds of Rusko, Hostage and Benga come across as Baroquian classics. |

Okay, find me a sub-bass line and a two-step in at least 1/4 of his songs. Can't? Skrillex doesn't follow genre, in fact, Sonny hates it. The same reason people love him is the same reason people hate him. I wouldn't put him on the same pedestal as say, Flux, or Emalkay... but his goal is nothing near either of those artist's goals, or really, anywhere close to what most electronic artists are trying to do. Everyone's got an opinion, just saying it takes talent to do what he does, same way it takes talent for the songs Noisia makes. And most people misunderstand the music he makes. Call it genre-less, because it certainly isn't dubstep, and calling it so is offensive to the art of dubstep. |
