I've got my own theory on this. Careful though it's a little far fetched. The key difference between characters like Goofy, Patrick Star or even MLP's very own Snips and Snails and Derpy is that the former are all male. You may think that this has nothing to do with it but to all other guys out there, remember what was probably the very first thing you learned about girls? Don't hit girls. This notion that girls are frail beings that need special protection is still in everyones mind so, while it's considered funny when boys are pictured as clumsy and stupid it becomes outrageous when a "poor defenseless girl" gets pictured as this.
Hope this made at least some sense. |

Ok, Now let me get this strait.
We're complaining about the fact that some butthurt people found a cartoon character offensive, when other more offensive cartoons have been in existence for far longer and are accepted without problem. And the only argument that we as the fandom can come up for why this double standard exists is that derpy is female. Why not argue the whole Political correctness is getting out of control. That the company needs to show the content unaltered and derpy in all her wonderful clumsyness. Being mentally handicapped myself I find it more offensive that they altered the original content. |
