The original voice grew on me, and I'd prefer they roll with their apparent mistake rather than revising it.
Regardless, the new voice sounds kind of bland in comparison. Makes me think "non-offensive" was the criterion before anything else. |

I really don't favor one voice or the other at this point. One was supposed to be a male voice and the other sounds like a rush job with little thought put into it. The point is they used Derpy for a plot-point in an episode. I think that's good enough. |

After I saw the comparison EqD featured today, I don't know... At first I didn't like her voice but now that I listen to it compared to the new voice, it had a sort of charm to it. They screwed up the syncing of both voices and Ashleigh didn't sound interested in the least when she voiced RD for the second time. I didn't mind her voice at first, but now that Derpy's voice is just another generic female voice that sounded rushed and with disinterest, I actually prefer her old voice. |

I didn't mind the new voice itself that much, but it sounds like Tabitha and Ashleigh really did not put their heart into it. I wouldn't be surprised if they were just grabbed at the last minute and went with only one take. I know both of them are MUCH better than that and Tabitha clearly put a lot more heart into the first Derpy voice.
It's really sad that this controversy even existed at all. |

That said, I was actually expecting to like derpy's new voice better than.the old one too. I absolutely DESPISED the "i just don't know what went wrong" line. In the words of tropics thunder "never go full retard" and that went so full it was spilling over.
However with the voice comparison, I realized that was really the only line from the original voice I didn't like. Furthermore, listening to the new voice, I don't get any real sense of incompetence on derpy's part, so it would almost com across like she's deliberately breaking stuff. The lack of derped eyes would only exacerbate the issue, taking it from an amusing nod to the fans and turning it into a fairly pointless and unamusing scene. Perhaps the final nail in the coffin for this issue is the need to change rainbowdash saying derpy's name. Even if it is offensive, it's still rainbowdash. She is offensive and thoughtless, so its not like her saying that even confirms derpy's name 100% since it could be a nickname rainbowdash came up with, while her given name is still ditzy doo, as referenced in winter wrapup. |
