I think it's less that she was edited in that episode and more the possibility that she will never have any larger appearance than cameos that scares the fanbase.
Yeah, she was only a background pony, she became a cameo in every episode due to the producers giving us some fanservice. But when she actually got a name and speaking lines, also, interacting with a member of the mane cast, well, the fans became very hopefull. And maybe a little bit greedy. Derpy becoming a more official character than simply a background pony became a possibility, and many fans wanted that. The modification kind of crushes and spits on that hope. That's why some fans feel that they were directly attacked by the change. Of course, here are many ways of dealing with this, and not everyone choose a more constructive path. |

It's not quite what @Silversoul says. It's not about people demaning more. It's just that, things seemed to have been going so well - people really got the impression that Hasbro cared for them. So understandably, such change without Hasbro even releasing a statement comes as sudden or shocking.
I'm upset about Hasbro's PR department, myself. If they just said publicly that they were going to mkake a change because of X, I think many people would've accepted it. Yes there are always troublemakers who don't, but doing it this way made a lot of people puzzled over what went wrong. A lot of finger pointing and panicking COULD have been avoided. And then just |

We wanted more appearances of Derpy. We were not (I was not) satisfied with only one scene in wich she interacted with a member of the mane cast.
We hoped for more (I hoped for more). When they removed her name form that one scene, it was (to me) like a message that told me she was being removed. She would not become anymore than what she used to be. And after seeing her being more, we (I) desired for more, and felt like they made a fool of us (me) when they made such a change. Sorry if my previous post sounded more demanding and rude than I intended. |
