Hence the visual edits and redubbing of both characters. |
| Anonymous #1056327 4 months ago |
No. They would have just edited out the word "Derpy" if that were the case. They edited out the eyes.
And people trying to blame fucking iTunes? Really? Fucking Apple doesn't care about any of this shit. This was a full-on cave on Hasbro's part, pure and simple. |

I still don't understand a god damn word of this! |
| Masem #1056481 4 months ago |
Except that WLF is still selling things under the "Derpy" name.
This would have been an early bet if WLF had to strip everything "Derpy" but they haven't. |

Theeeen.... why change her eyes? |
| Nebbie #1056489 4 months ago |
Nice try to explain it, but there's problems.
-They had her eyes derped in the very first episode. This can't be a trademark issue. So why would they underp her eyes when removing the name? -They also gave her a new voice. Sure, Tabitha did it without knowing the gender, but then why go and redo all of Derpy's lines when Dash is the one who said her name? If it was just the voice being to deep, that wouldn't be important enuff for a redo just because they change another part of the scene. -Trademark isn't like copyright. It's not automatic. You hav to actually apply for that stuff. Trademark is a source identifier for goods, so unless a fanfic writer was selling Derpy stuff and applied for a trademark, Hasbro can use it. -If you mean copyright, then I can safely say that a character name lawsuit is not going to hold up in court when the character already existed in the show. |

dude, it IS about the fucking complaints. if it would just be about the name, they wouldn't have edited everything else |
| OzarkBrony #1056497 4 months ago |
Counterpoint:
Hasbro DID do it because of complaints from disabled people (or, even more likely, from overly-PC soccer moms or maybe Apple). Thus, the changed voiceover and underped eyes. If they were concerned about Trademark issues, they could have had it redubbed (or dubbed in the first place) as "Ditsy-Doo" or "Ditsy", a name that appears in the show already and has, in fact, been used by fans to refer to this pony. Hasbro didn't "wrangle" Studio B because they didn't think they needed to. Now, because of this manufactured shitstorm, they will certainly do so. Sibsy is obviously gagged from saying anything, which is never a good sign. |

@super - Some assholes in the disabled community made a big stink about Derpy Hooves being offensive to disabled people, and the word "derp" being an ableist slur, and called for her removal. Hasbro removed it, then brought it back, then the modification happened. |

So Mr. Anon, care to explain the underping of her eyes? Or the complete redubbing of the whole scene with her? |
| Impious #1056512 4 months ago |
OP, that doesn't explain the fact that Hasbro erased Derpy's identity. If her eyes were unchanged, then this wouldn't really be much of a problem. Her new voice is better and the name isn't copyrighted anyways. So that part is true enough.
Except that they corrected the very reason for Derpy's existence, her eyes, and thus rendered her trivial. They fucking killed her. |
| superichigo #1056556 4 months ago |
It's starting to make sense. And the more it does, the angrier I get. I understand the name change and voice redo but why change her entirely! |
| OzarkBrony #1056569 4 months ago |
I've said it before and I'll say again: What the fuck does "ableist" even mean?! I'd never even heard that word until all this shit happened (and I'm not exactly young or untravelled), so clearly it's not a widely-in-use term. I read the news every single day, have for years, and I'd still NEVER ONCE heard the term "ableist" used anywhere.
Seems to me it's just some PC-nazi bullshit term used by the PC Police (and one really annoying tranny in Kentucky) to label anyone and anything that doesn't treat people 100% positively. |

Think of it this way. The show is intended for ages 6-9 roughly regardless of our fandom. They would want to change it because kids at that age are impressionable. While we don't see "Derpy" as much of an insult, if a kid was to be called Derpy because of their eyes, they would probably take it as an insult. Kids would see it as if you have that eye disorder, then you are "Derpy" and you sound retarded. If kids started calling others Derpy all the time, hasbro would be in the hotseat because of it. So they revoiced the scene so it sounds less retarded, took out 90% of the derp eyes, and decided to keep her unnamed.
So what does this actually mean? Jack shit, son. She'll still be Derpy for all of the fanbase. Just call her Ditzy "Derpy" Whooves. Just deal with it rather than crying about something that we probably shouldn't have gotten anyways. I'll still look for in the new episodes like I look for Lyra and Bon Bon |

Hasbro thinks that underping her eyes and giving her back her old name will make her less popular than she is actually. she has been included with the mane 6 too much, i have to say. that pisses me off to see this. |

How in the fuck can they not trademark that, that's bullshit |
| jimlahey #1057286 4 months ago |
Cool story, wheres your source? Oh, you are just making up head canon?
Head canon that doesnt explain the voice change, or the eye change |
| Anonymous #1057297 4 months ago |
There's only one problem with your assessment, Paperpony.
Exactly how many kids use iTunes? |

Surprisingly many,nowadays. |
