I’m not sorry to say this - but I honestly don’t give a fuck. In the end it’s just a cartoon, not something that was intended to be taken seriously - ever.
I don’t believe in fanons seriously, never did, my view on fanon is that it’s just something fun to play with but it should never be something to obsess over or treat like it’s the bible - that only ends in unhappiness. The show is THEIRS, not ours. Always have, and always will be - the best we can and should do is just enjoy everything they have to offer. That’s how I always enjoyed my cartoons and other things over the years, I never demanded the creators do/change something to our liking - I just was thankful for what they gave. My view is that it’s their story, let them tell it the way they want to. And if I get tired of it, that’s okay - I just move on. Maybe it’s just me but the edit may have been the best move. Giving in to the fanon deliberately tends to be a bad idea in my personal view as it means the audience is controlling what creators do. (I know it’s not completely true but I just worry sometimes that could happen and the results will not always be satisfying to everyone involved). I wouldn’t want that to happen in my own works. (a little teaser there and here is fiine but making it so blatantly obvious is…usually not good). So, It’s over, they edited it, so what? Just move on and enjoy what the future may have to offer. What people SHOULD be grateful about is the fact they kept the scene inact. That’s the most important part. Who cares if her name was removed or her voice changed? The whole story and character are still there - and that’s all that matters. The show is still good. Move on people, in the end, it’s only just a cartoon. Feel free to think what you want, I just wanted to voice my own thoughts/suggestions. I’m not gonna try and change yours, just making a statement. |

Yo, Cartoonlion, love the futashy, but at the same time, I have to disagree. Derpy Hooves is more or less the cornerstone of the fandom. Not to be that guy who acts like we're the literal shit, but she signifies just what a vocal and lively fandom can do. Having that taken away is a little disheartening. |

And yes this is a cartoon that the fandom tends to take too seriously. But people are upset that a nod towards the fans was edited. I don't think it should be the point of melodramatic antics and statements but I understand where some of it comes from. I'm taking a break from ponies until the next episode Or however long I can stay away . |

We as a fandom have created enough excitement and support for the show that staff decidedto give a little something back in the form of a cameo. Like you said, it is and allways has been their show. If they didn't want to put Derpy in, they wouldn't have. |

I agree with Kestarz, the show needs to stay in the middle ground and not give in _too_ much to the fans.
Think about how mild the show started off as? And people still loved it. If you keep the show mild and not go too crazy with stuff, it gives the fans a lot of vague material to shape their fan material off of. If the show started off deliberately and specifically naming every thing, like all of the background ponies names and the specifics of their relationships and family ties, it would have been boring for every one. If they would have edited in before the first season ended that Derpy was a mail mare, sure it would have made me happy because in my head canon Derpy is a mail mare, but not every one would have seen her that way. The best thing they could have done for Derpy would have just drawing her into the back ground. Because that would have kept her as a traditional back ground character. A where's Waldo type of character. Some pony to look for and get excited over posting your screen shots when you find her. Besides, going too far with making Derpy stupid and retarded sounding would just attract the wrong attention and could open the door for law suits. Yes I think its wrong to sue over any thing, but people are sue happy these days and they WILL sue over something like Derpy. |

@Kestarz Don't know how old are you, but in this century those things do not hold all that true anymore. Everyone making a product is a lot more connected to the audience now. But even in the past, "it's their show and you should be grateful you can watch it" did not hold true, because it's you - the audience's - money that allows them to make the show, and they do it for your entertainment, not for their own.
Yes, it is silly to feel too entitled, but the extent that you are preaching is too far too. Claiming it's their show not yours is a lie. Shows belong to the creators AND the audience. All products do. But Anon #1056153 is right. This is not about people wanting to control the show. It's the show adding something over their own volition, and then -for some reason- going back on it, making people confused over what happened. That is what is happening. I can't agree with you @Ping. Regardless of where this'll go, if Derpy never talked the world would've been a poorer place. Not just because of this fandom, but because it was an example of show-fandom interaction that was rare, exciting and new. |

Well, first of all, nothing about Hearts and Hooves day made fluttermac noncanon, if that's what she means. Second, sorry, Dude. While Fluttermac is my favorite Fluttershy Pairing (Second only to Angelshy) I doubt something like that could ever be canon. This is still a show for little kids and rarely ever deals with romantic relationships. (much less involving the main characters.)
Also, Ping, if that's what you agree with, I do too. Remember all of Luna's fanon before Nightmare Night? Adorkable/bitter/cute little sister Luna? I like the part where the creators bulldozed right over those and created an actually interesting and compelling character. Likewise, when Derpy finally spake, they ignored the commonly accepted saccharin sweet Derpy voice that was floating around and her cutesy, generic personality in favor of, again, something much more compelling and interesting. (Though, the voice seems to have been just a flub on Tabitha's part, so I suppose that's neither here nor there.) |

I'm not so much as lying its more like, I only ever look at her art on Ponibooru, so its more of pulling two and two together. See befor Hearts and Hooves, there were a number of CL pics about Fluttermac, "they're meant to be" and other bullshit. I didn't brother looking at any artist comment, but I do know the few sfw art she does nowadays are her veiws on the show, like one about Rarity and Spike, and well this. So it isn't too hard to see it as CL just being a dumb shipper going on a hissy fit. So yeah. |

 Seriously, if you want to be passive about it, that's your business, but I honestly think this has turned into something bigger than just getting Derpy back. This has brought moral issues, issues of censorship in cartoons, etc. It may 'just be a cartoon' (ha!), but there are bigger things at stake here, things that have been bubbling under the surface for a while now with other shows and situations.
If you want to sit and be passive about it, fine, I'm certainly not going to hate you for that. Just don't start bashing everyone else for caring. |
