I would argue that genitalia isn't necessarily explicit if it is used in an artsy way. As long as it isn't sexualized then I don't think it deserves an explicit rating. |

And I argue that genitalia is not explicit on ponies. On humans I'm not sure what it should be (we do hav a nudity tag, but it looks like it's used even for breasts alone). I think majority community decision is explicit for that, but I'm not sure and the last discussion on ratings yielded few results for any kind of standard. It is important to note that, by default, questionable will be hidden behind a cover where you can see tags and explicit will not show up at all. Right now I think far too many images are unnecessarily in the explicit category due to a SFW/NSFW dichotomy in the minds of some users. Questionable exists for a reason guys. |

Regardless, they are NSFW and most regard them as explicit. I agree that Breasts shouldn't be considered as explicit as they are made out to be and such labeling should be considered as a double standard but that's just the way it is at the moment.
They're not something you want your boss (or mother) catch you seeing on your screen so... yeah. |

genitalia is shown to children all the time in school and museums. Nothing explicit about genitals at all as long as it isn't showing them in a sexual manner. Same for breasts.

Well if I don't consider something I upload as NSFW then I am not going to tag it explicit. Seeing as I can't judge for EVERY OTHER USER on here, I have to go with what I believe. Because even if only 1 user things something is explicit, that would through out the 100000 other people think it is questionable.. So upload how you believe.. This is a site for adults. If a child is on here, the parents shoudl be filtering out the questionable pictures anyways. Explicit should only be used for images that could be offensive or disturbing, such as foalcon, rape, gore, ect. |

@jimhaley the rules, unfortunately, are too poorly written. Questionable has almost no standard (or if taken literally, means every single image on the site) while explicit could cover virtually everything the community currently considers as just questionable.
It's especially funny that the anon above my last comment just said what he considers explicit in wording that closely resembles the rules' definition of questionable. |

I see a lot of talk of the intent of the nudity. I think that since some people are going to get off to it either way, while others might find the stuff intended to be porn as being good just on artistic value, that that really doesn't make much sense. I must say that several times I hav come across porn that I only liked for the art quality. I'm a bit odd possibly tho in that I never masturbate to porn, and almost never even use it as a basis for a fantasy. |

If a child is on this site, then the parents need to do a little parental supervision, and filter out questionable and explicit content that they don't want their child to see. I consider questionable to be adult material, while explicit to be adult material that even I may find offensive or sickening as an adult. |

You can hem and haw about how technically you arent allowed to look at ponies at work at all so every image is nsfw, but if we're being functional adults about it, it isnt that hard of a judgement call. If you dont/cant be trusted to make decisions as a functional adult heres an easy guide: if EqD would cry about it, then its probably questionable, if they wouldnt post it at all, its probably safe to tag it explicit But to each his own, upload what you want, tag it how you want |

Just putting this out there, but I would hope that genitalia doesn't become questionable. I have some Explicit favorited, and I tend to at least take look at a lot of Explicit art anyway, but I keep Explicit hidden behind the thumbnail and only click the ones I'm intrigued by.
It seems counterproductive to slide the scale left at this point regarding stuff like genitalia. I think of it as things that would get a movie an R rating should be explicit, and things that would get a movie PG-13 should be Questionable. As such, I agree with the OP. |

You know that's pretty much just like saying "draw the line between what is a pile of dirt and a mound of dirt here" right? It's a pretty pointless argument. Everyone's going to have a different perception of where boobs lie due to differences in their own moral judgment, so there's really no point in arguing about it, especially when the difference between the two classifications is simply worth a trip to the filter editor. |

Movie ratings are mostly arbitrary, harsher on independent films, harsher on homosexuality than heterosexuality, and extremely inconsistent. Additionally, by that logic many images currently explicit with full blown sex would go questionable along with all genitalia, because PG-13 can hav sex. R just means the sex is less agreeable to the two catholic priests that oversee the MPAA raters (no seriously, they do that). |
