Princess Celestia and the Sun Arcana
With Luna representing the Moon Arcana, it would only make sense that Celestia represents the Sun Arcana. The Sun Arcana is known to symbolize "happiness, joy, energy, optimism and accomplishment." In P3, the Sun Arcana was found within a soul not long for this world. Akinari Kamiki is a young man born with a genetic disease and is fully aware his time on Earth is nearly up. At first, his depressed mood about his shortened lifespan seems to not fully represent the Sun Arcana, but over time, he finds a meaning to his life in a storybook he begins to write. As he mentions the sad fate of the storybook’s characters, he realizes that life should be lived to the fullest and how he should appreciate every moment he has left. Akinari ends the book on a positive note, much like how he turns his own outlook on life around by the end of the Social Link. Like the Strength Arcana in P4, the Sun Arcana has two possible characters, each with their own story. The drama club student, Yumi, saw her passion for acting as an escape from her life as “Yumi Ozawa.” She learns about her father nearing the end of his life and how her mother desperately tries to reconnect the family. Yumi bears a resentment towards her father due to him leaving her and her mother when she was younger, but from both his words and her mother’s about how proud they are to have given life to Yumi, she finds it in her heart to forgive him in the final moments. The other character is Ayane Matsunaga, a first year trombone player of the music club. Ayane is incredibly shy and without much self esteem upon meeting her. She is always willing to pass on larger responsibilities to the more experienced trombone player, even when given a special chance for a music recital. She eventually realizes how much she loves music and vows to keep practicing so she can one day take the stage with her head (and instrument) held high. I had a bit of trouble trying to figure out what would be the best way to go about a social link with Princess Celestia. She always seems busy and rarely ever leaves the castle, but that’s where I found my inspiration. I thought the Sun Arcana could be played out like how the Hermit Arcana was in Persona 4: a request system. On the initial visit, the Princess could talk about how she wishes she could interact with her subjects more often, and how she sometimes receives news of quarreling among the ponies of Ponyville. She could ask if you could find a way to bring peace to those struggling throughout the town, and the icing on the cake, report back with a lesson on friendship learned after the issue has been resolved. Ta-da! Instant relevance to the show and another way Celestia ropes a character into writing friendship reports to her. |
