Do the pigs have the same level of sentience or sapience as some of the other non-pony creatures do?
What monsters other than dragons and sea serpents have a "human-like" level of intelligence? |

The pigs don't appear to be sentient the way that the cows and donkeys etc are. |

Donkeys (well they ARE equines) seem to be about the same as ponies.
Cows are intelligent, talk, use pony services, but still live on the fields on the town outskirts (don't use houses) apparently. Small animals seem to be intelligent but lack speech. Pigs are apparently the worse. I suspect that they ARE capable of speech and cleverness, but would rather act like animals and live in pens because, you know, pigs. I posted this because I have no idea how you could humanize these scenes. Are the cows, I don't know, fat women stampeding? |

The cows being sapient seems like a rushed change in the second season. They didn't appear intelligent in S1 at all, whereas the donkeys were established as intelligent from the start. |

Pigs, cows and such are all as intelligent as ponies. They're kept as farm animals because that's thier living arrangements, pony gives food and shelter, animal gives milk, truffles or wool. |

^Actually, the mix between nanderthal and homo sapien was considered advantageous to diversity and evolution. It created a more complex genetic code.

Cows, Sheep, Pigs = All even-toed ungulates. All kept as livestock. The disturbing conclusion is that in Equestria, the solid-hoofed animals keep their cloven-hoofed cousins as slaves. |

Well, domesticated pigs live in slop, because of what a wild pig has that they don't; mainly; a cool, moist environment.
You know how Muslims see pigs as "unclean"? It's because they wallow in piss and shit. That's only because some idiot thought it'd be a good idea to take an animal that's used to wet climates into the middle of the goddamned desert, so pigs have to find some way to keep cool; ergo; piss and shit. |

@Gomenasai: Cows do seem to be inteligent in S1, as shown in Applebucking Season, they are just prone to mass panic easily, aparently. |
