That dress would be awful RL. It's nice enough here though.
On a tangent; why do artists always draw perfect figures. It seems like a cop out to not vary the body types one draws. |

B2C said: For one thing, when learning to draw, one goes for the "ideal" body type, for no other reason than that it's an accepted objective measure of things. Humans are ideally drawn proportionally at somewhere between 8 and 7.5 heads high, even though actual heights have a much broader variance. And my point in mentioning this is that many artists in our fandom are probably amateurs on some level still, and in working out a human form, still cling to the ideal. Not an insult to artists, they're likely still in practice, maybe. At least, that's what I'd do. You need to know what you're drawing before you start deviating from it and setting a "style" or whatnot. Second of all, in humanizing ponies, how often is there distinction in their body types? Obviously, it's a cost-saving measure by Studio B/DHX Media, but as a result, all the ponies have fairly homogenous and healthy-looking bodies (as compared to chubby colts like Chowder/Nathan/Truffle Shuffle or the elderly like Granny Smith or Mr. Waddle). In a sense, the body types embodied by our mane cast and the majority of background ponies are effectively the ideal. Seems counter intuitive (wouldn't the ideal, the "perfect", be more rare?), but it also just seems to work. Effectively, ponies just don't vary as much as humans do and those that deviate from an "ideal" standard are uncommon, and in translating that, there isn't too many humans that aren't ideal in figure. (Though, Fleur-De-Lis's position as a particularly curvy pony makes me wonder. Maybe her body type is more ideal than most, and in fact, an ideal pony body is rarer. But I'm not going to start deliberating on horse shapes for too long because then I'll feel weird.) |
