Gods of Chaos have a fondness for games, a fondness for joy and laughter and all the mischief in between, such as their kind was made to be. Gods of Chaos can always enjoy a decent game for the souls and livelihoods of their victims, a little roll of the dice, a tiny smidgeon of a bet; perhaps in regards to which bird will drop its excrement on whom? They love deals, don't they? Especially those that they don't have any power over; things that are beyond their control; all a jumble and all out of order, just how they like it.
They also enjoy poker. The name of the game is Canterlot Hold 'Em, the chips are the souls of its denizens, the game is set to begin after a shuffle... Celestia rolls the bank, Luna plays for keeps, Twilight in one corner with her smile, that lovely smile; we cannot forget Blueblood, of course; a gentlecolt's game needs a gentlecolt does it not? Spike is there to make up the numbers, munching on gems otherwise left to shatter. Then there is Discord, who does not know if he will win this hand, the next, or at all. He does not know who will win in the end; it is all a jumble and not in the stars; it is all down to the shuffle of cards without order nor sequence. Pure chaos. How wonderful! |

I'd be fine with Discord coming back as a neutral character who just does whatever is on his mind at that moment (regardless of whether it will make him an antagonist that day). I don't need him to stay 100% villain. I just need him to stay intelligent and a threat.
God of chaos. He doesn't need to be stuck on the all-day-villain tracks. |

So if you think they cant think of a way to bring them back why do you watch the show? one of the main reasons the show is good is because of the amazing talent they have for writing a story. plus do you not know the way "Q" from star trek works. Q is one of the best parts of ST imo, and he is defeated every time and then he comes back stronger and harder every time it was a great part to the series

My thoughts are that Discord is pure evil, and he associates chaos with evil, and as such, strives to cause chaos. He is in truth more powerful than your average Dragon Ball Z villain, but his power lulls him into such a false sense of security that the Elements of Harmony could actually harm him. With his guard up, the Elements would possibly be useless on their own, requiring other powerful magic to even have a chance of defeating Discord. |

My take is that Discord is simply a very powerfull being, that got BORED.
Having all the time and power in the world made him bored of all that was, and he nows gets his kicks from seeing other suffer from his chaotic random acts. He is not evil, he didn't really harm nopony. Also, I was hoping he himself would get bored when Twilight accepted defeat and stopped reacting to his misdeeds. What's the fun in doing it if there is nopony to be outraged? |

Here's my two cents on Discord: if there was a required amount of chaos in the world, he wasn't it.
I think Discord doesn't even believe that he's bringing balance. He wants all chaos all the time, he had a plan to overthrow order, and he followed through with it. Discord can't physically do anything else far beyond what we've seen. He's not intelligent like Q, he's not a fair player, he doesn't have a mysterious ultimatum. I think a good example would be Oswald Cobblepot, the Penguin. He appears gentile and fair, when in actuality he is a beast, wild and raving. He's putting on airs to further his singular goal of control. We just didn't get to see him lose his patience enough. Had he known, as the element bearers approached him, that they had beaten his system and were able to stop him he would not have been so composed. Faced again with defeat, he would have snapped and showed the "bad" part of chaos. He would have lost his whimsy and playfulness to show that chaos is also unpredictability and danger. I think he would have lunged at Twilight and aimed for the throat. He's a monster, he's full of hate and masks it with his little "yippee chaos is so fun!" routine. I don't even think he represents elemental chaos. He's just a bratty little Draconoquiss who wanted to control everything and bend it to his whims. I'm sure his mother is ashamed of him. TL;DR: For someone so obsessed with chaos, he's quite the control freak and wouldn't bring much variety to the show beyond his usual repertoire. |

I'd quite like to see a prequel about Celestia and Luna beating Discord the first time around, but that would have to be focussed around the GPoP and I think the show's team have decided to keep them more mysterious (especially Celestia).
But Discord was just an asshole with ridiculous powers. He called himself a god of chaos, but (as usual with gods of chaos) that's just a self-aggrandising title. He's actually just a shithead. (ps @1042103: in MLP Friendship >>Discord>>>GPoP) |

One idea is that Discord sort of threw the fight, cause chaos and order NEED each other to actually exist- as something to be compared to- pure chaos isn't "Chaos" without order to set standards- and without Discords "extreame chaos" to raise the bar, then what's to put half the stuff Twilight and her friends do by mistake on the "Forgivable life lesson" side of things? |

It only depends on whether they want to bring him back some time down the road and get the Q guy back.
But yeah, Q was very easily 'defeated' the same way Discord is. They get way too cocky and too bored with their powers and they lose all the time that way. Like how Squirrel Girl defeated so many insanely powerful Marvel villains. |
