Spook is an old racist term for black people, yes. The implication was that since people with dark skin would be harder to see at night, they can sneak up on you. |

'Spook' is used to great effect in the first Back to the Future movie. It's what Biff's henchmen call one member of the band when they're about to beat the crap out of Marty - Of course, a car door opens and like five more guys step out with a "Who you callin' spook?" and imminent beat-down. It's an -older- racial euphemism, y'see.
