Idris was a woman who was used as a vessel for the essence of the Tardis. The Doctor didn't realize that it was sentient before that. Heck of a lot of spoilers in that one about the doctor's origins. He's crying because the Tardis is returning to the box and it will be the last time he speaks to her directly. Idris was already dead at this point which made it even sadder for him. Other than that the story line was one the best Doctor Who's I've seen: a living planet that eats Tardis vessels. |
