I was really disappointed by all the background faggotry on Ponychan. It doesn't even make any sense. With so many people around, how can there NOT be some down-to-earth intelligence? Now, I understand it's the internet, but that's really all the more reason why there should be. The pony fandom has combated many harmful stereotypes that restrict internet users by telling them what they can be and what they can't. And so many young internet users commit suicides every year because there's just so few positive portrayals of them in the media they feel they are all alone with their intelligence. Ponychan says to young interneters that it's okay if you aren't a perpetually butthurt moron, there are many different ways to enjoy the internet. But still one norm they are reinforcing is idiocy. But I guess it's about the backlash they anticipate from LGBT activists. It's all about Europe, isn't it? ಠ_ಠ |

The worst part about this is that when I read this I think of Rainbow Dash being a lesbian and I realize how limiting that can be for a child, that it would appear that the only way you could be someone like Rainbow Dash is if you were gay.
This person has a point, but I'm pretty sure I kind of countered this point just now. |

If anything, I think Dash being straight or bisexual would be neat. There aren't enough straight tomboys in the world (coughcoughoneofmyfetishescough). Though huh...now that I think about it...Who out of the main six do you think would LEAST likely to be a lesbian and thus would flip the most shit if (remember hypothetical) in the show they were revealed as such? |

I agree, forcing RD into the tomboy+rainbow=lesbian thing is just as harmful a stereotype as anything else. Makes me cringe when I read rants within the LGBT community about how the only reason they like the show is because Dash being gay is their head-canon, and if it was ever disproved they'd abandon the show entirely or even attack it. |

This is why I'm tired of seeing nonstop, nonsensical, slash shippings in this fandom. Not because I'm homophobic or anything but because it's a stupid idea to make all the mares lesbians, and all the stallions gay. I know you might say "Well it's because of the gender percentage difference.", one, that is a lame-ass excuse for anything and two, it's My Little Pony, what do you expect there to be more of? Seriously did everyone forget that?
It's OP's like this that really make you realize how stupid everyone has gotten believing that every mare has to be a lesbian because of some stupid population difference. I know I've said this in previous comments but I'm going to say it again, imagine you're with your friend at a mall who is the same gender as you, now imagine that someone walked up to you and your friend and blatantly assumed that you were gay for each other. How would you feel if someone walked up to you and stated that you two are gay because you were standing or walking around, conversing with each other? This is why I enjoy hetero pairings more than slash shippings, because of insecure people like this stating that everypony needs to be gay or a lesbian, especially if those two ponies were only talking or walking alongside each other. Lyra and Bonbon is the only slash shipping I enjoy but maybe that's because I'm just going with the crowd and don't want to get flamed for drawing a picture of Lyra or Bonbon in a straight pairing. I mean I've thought of drawing Octavia with one of my OC's but like I said, I feel that if I draw something like that, then I'm going to get flamed or hate for no reason. My OC's aren't like a lot of other OC's, I put time, effort, and thought into my OC's to make them likeable, and it's all the mary sue OC's that gave good, original OC's a bad name. That's just my 2 cents, say what you want, but atleast try to understand what I said was true in the least. Blaze-Bolt out. |

Speaking as someone who enjoys shipping, the only reason I read as much or think up such ships is convinence due to female population.
And I enjoy lesbians. But honestly. I take nothing as Canon or OTP. Shipping should be more about... something to include in a fan fic that helps open up the world to more mature themes or an experiment in romantic writing on how two characters with their various traits would shack up so to speak. Taking anything as irrefutable canon-fanon is just dumb dumb dumb. That said, I like Vinyl and Octavia along with Gilda and Iron Bulwark (an OC no less!) There. Now back to my merrily prancing internet cupid ways. |
