yeah i always wondered how that worked.
when i was maybe 8 i had this idea in my mind that he like gathered and condensed energy around the surface then projected it outwards, so it was like an explosion but really wasn't. That explained why he could explode without destroying himself and why the surface was charred afterwards. |

My theory is that they have combustable shells that they can "shed" explosively. They have an extra shell inside, but that would be damaged by the point-blank explosion, which is why they're left unable to battle. |

I hate selfdestruction one time while fighting my snorlax against mewtow (in the pokemon stadium for n64) and I was winning with my last pokemon but snorlax use metronome and selfdestruccion pop out, snorlax explode and we lost the fight... I hate metronome too. |
