Nightmare Moon is kind of already a kiddy version of The Darkness, though. Isn't she some eldritch abomination that hijacked Luna because her negative emotions drew her in? Anyway.

I think, even before Nightmare Moon, Luna was the head of Equestria's military branches, and was known to often be in the front lines of battle. Enemies of Equestria learned that Luna was something truly horrifying to encounter, known to use the darkness that was her magic.
The fear ponies had of Luna was not from Nightmare Moon alone, but from the tales of her in battle. |

Luna is a being of darkness, but she is far from evil.
The Darkness is chaotic evil and then some. Although in the second game it's actually being one hundred percent honest with Jackie, had he only listened none of that shit would have happened. Don't blame him for not listening, that thing is an asshole. |
