^ Really, Jack?
She's Pinkie Pie's prototype.

She was the original design by Faust, until she became a Pink Earth Pony instead of a white Pegasus

Yeah, Faust was originally going to use G1 ponies, but since Hasbro lost copywrites to all of them but Applejack and Spike, she had to use a few g3 instead

I thought the prototype was just a pinkie pie with wings, based on the art I've seen. Huh.

It became Pinkie with wings when she couldn't use Surprise, but she decided to give the wings to Posie instead, whe then became Fluttershy

That's where Pinkie got her of of pranks actually, that was one of Surprises little things, she loved to pull pranks, add that to g3 Pinkie who loved throwing parties, and you've got g4 Pinkie

I'm wondering how the hell Hasbro loses copyrights to stuff they own. Did they fall into public domain? Or, were they given away to retiring Hasbro associates as a parting gift?

I'm not sure if it's the case nowadays, but atleast back then when people made characters, they held the copyrights themselves, so when those people quit, Hasbro couldn't use them anymore, the same thing happened to Sega with Mighty the armadillo and a few other characters

They didn't lose the copyrights, they lost the trademarks. Trademarks expire if they fall into disuse, like happened with the older gen ponies, apparently.
