I kind of like to think their little date at the gazebo after the events of the episode started as a bit of a joke and a chance to bond over the shared experience of dealing with those darn kids every day (Hey, Mac's a good listener, and they both know the CMC, love them, and are often annoyed by them).
Then things slowly sort of slide to this direction as the night begins and the fireworks go off. Even if it ends right there, they have a nice and even romantic Hearts and Hooves day despite the CMC. I had a similar experience with a date on valentine's day before - it was just a one-off, half-joke because it was valentine's day and nothing came of it, but it made the day a lot more fun and bearable for the both of us. |
