Now show us Bon-Bon's mutually immortal, abusive, incestuous older brother who seduced both Lyra and the entire school population. |

Utena is a show everyone should see once. And I mean only "once." If you watch it again you'll realize that it's 99% pretentious nihilistic bullshit.
The movie, on the other hand, was so fucked up it was brilliant. |

Now draw Bonbon as a car with Lyra riding her to freedom. |

Anime during the 90's had a phase where literally 95% of 'serious' storylines in anime was EXTREMELY nihilistic. Like that one scene where all the characters pretty much die in Slayers (then come back) to crucial characters being killed left and right in Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, etc etc. Even Sailor Moon flirted with total annihilation in several seasons. |

I wouldn't call Utena nihilistic at all. It's extremely surreal, but in the end reality with all its growing pains triumphs over illusion, at least for characters willing to embrace it. |
