They also have video games... |

Schizo Tech.
For the uninitiated. Look it up in TV Tropes. MLP:FiM is a crowning example. |

This is fucking hilarious.
So true. |
| PowerToole #1001704 5 months ago |
That's right. Don't forget the video games. And whatever that batcomputer thing Twilight was using to test Pinkie was. |

A unicorn did it. |

Is to be put in the field that Ponies is a tech that developed taking in account magic. (BTW Earth Pony magic, IMHO, is something akin to endurance and preternatural awareness of earthly environment)
They never developed ballpoint pen, since they can always use magic or pencil in emergency. Plus is perhaps just twilight that like to write in such arcaic way, probably an habit she took in Canterlot |

"Yes."
"I hate this world and everyone in it." |

It's like the original Civilization tech tree. They just climbed solely on certain branches of technology and disregarded the others. |
| Anonymous #1001856 5 months ago |
It's not that they can't make ballpoint pens. It's more trendy to have a quill and a sofa filled with matching feathers. |
| Anonymous #1001898 5 months ago |
Hell I write with a quill and ink, |

I prefer to think of it as selective use. When you have to regularly intervene in environmental balance in order to keep the animals alive and the weather operating, you probably develop strong ideas on minimal impact and when tech is good or bad -- and those ideas might be radically different from ours. Take the coexistence of ponydrawn and steam trains, for instance, which would be economically impossible without strong preferences for the older ways. |

@OzarkBrony don't mention TV Tropes without warning.
EVER. |
| Anonymous #1001937 5 months ago |
Twilight is an antiquarian. Simple as that. |

just a quick point, gels for spotlights aren't cellophane. cellophane would melt in no time from the heat. |
| Cerulean #1002447 5 months ago |
@909 Different trains are economically realistic. The technology that is viable for a local train (Canterlot is in sight of Ponyville) can take a long time to scale up to something that goes all the way to the frontier and back, because of the infrastructure necessary. It parallels the limited use of electric trains in America.
If we assume it really is steam power, that infrastructure gap would consist only of laying the track in a world like ours, but in the pony world there would be more concerns, like the work needed to clear away the trail of clouds that otherwise would just continue to build up along the track. |

The ball-point pen is very different technologically from stage lighting or sound equipment. Although if they understand why a sharpened quill works as a pen, they'd probably make metal nibs. |

A third of the society grows feathers, might as well put them to use |
