It is as canon as they'll get on a children's show that can't even give the slightest hint of kissing on screen. It was deliberately written in an open ended manner for writing convenience because Hasbro wants little to no continuity between S2 episodes. If they're going to touch on romance they have to play off characters other than the mane 6. Remember there's a mandate that the episodes have to work in any order. That's why nopony seems to remember how many times the mane 6 have saved Equestria. It's also why Spike having a crush on Rarity can be canon, but Rarity's feelings toward Spike must remain ambiguous. A mane 6 romance just wouldn't fit the show's non-serial nature. And for the record, the ending with them trolling them CMC means nothing. It's possible for them to have having some fun, and still have been genuine about it. The wink could have also been flirtatious. They still do go to the gazebo and spend the entire day together beforehand. Shipping goggles or not, it's pretty obvious that it's implied the writers have set them up for being a couple. Tl;dr CHEERIMAC IS AS CANON AS A SHOW FOR LITTLE GIRLS REVOLVING AROUND FRIENDSHIP WILL ALLOW. |

It was left open for interpretation, so people can interpret it anyway they choose, and you don't have the right to tell them they're wrong for seeing it either way. They could just be friends, or they could be getting together. They left it open for a reason. But it's still clear, without caring about shipping, it's more evidence and fuel for the ship than there is for any popular fanon pairing. They walk off into the sunset together, vs. trolling the CMC. The writers want people to decide for themselves. So shut the fuck up and stop acting like you're one of the writers. |

Cheerilee called Big Mac "a good friend" a couple times throughout the episode, the two outright laughed at the notion of getting together, and the end gave no indication that would change. What's ambiguous? Like a lot of shy guys, Big Mac's been FRIENDZONED, for the moment. If some future episode goes out of its way to show them dating or together, so be it, but that certainly doesn't seem to be the case as of right now. The only reason I see for people to claim the ending was ambiguous is because they want a ship they support to be canon, even tenuously. This allows them to bash other ships as #1001650, #1001674, and various others are still doing even after the episode has aired. |

One date after another could be a hilarious string of disasters. Rarity, Rainbow and Pinkie all have the potential to intimidate their dates in the extreme; but each in different ways. The former two would probably be aware of it and kind of enjoy it, while Pinkie would be oblivious. |

Season 2 happens during season 1 *season shuffling* best I can tell. So all episodes are a bit ambigious on continuity, so anything in this season has to be open ended so it can't contradict anything in season 1. Not that it matters.
and PS: children's shows can have love interests between characters. Just not be overly up front about it, if Gumball can have a girlfriend, then Ponies can have dates, and besides we have a married couple that had two kids. Wouldn't it be easier to leave the episode ambiguous so fans of both ships can use fan-made material to evolve Cheerilee and Mac's relationship from good friends to lovers; or make material that they remain good friends and focuses on Fluttermac? I mean, from what I've seen, these arguments are mostly started by certain anonymous people and avid Cheerimac fans acting without tolerance towards people who say that the ending was ambiguous or that it was clear they only remained good friends. They were less pro-Cheerimac and more anti-Fluttermac, and that's really where the argument is stemming from. |

The episode was left ambiguous with Cheerilee and BigMac trolling the CMC. In fanon of course we are able to interpret it as we please, so CheeriMac can be as canon as LyraxBonBon, who as far as we know seems to always stand next to each other (friends? lover? cousins?). And how did DerpyxDoctor became popular if they haven't shared screentime together at all, the same way FlutterMac became to be, people liked the idea and went along with it. The only difference is that people who aren't into that ship leave the shippers alone and focus on their own ship, while SOME of the FlutterMac/CheeriMac became attacking the other ship, then Anontrolls joined and shitstorm ensued. If both sides let the other be then everything would be fine and trolls would eventually starve. |

I think Fluttershy would be too young for Macintosh anyway. Also, Hasbro's site had some Cheerilie/Macintosh printable coloring pages, so wouldn't that count as canon? There's a lot of subtle continuity in the show, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Cheerilie and Macintosh together more. |
