I think that Twilight is more of an older sister to Spike, not really a mother. And since when is Celestia a mother figure to Spike? Did she lay that egg he came from or what? |

Lauren Faust mentioned that, the way she imagined the series, Celestia was the one who brought up Spike after he was hatched. So, yeah, basically Celestia is Spike's adoptive mother. Twilight's more of a sister/confidant/babysitter, though there are definitely echoes of a parent/child relationship in their interactions from time to time.
Surely by now someone's written a Twilestia shipfic titled "Spike Has Two Mommies"? |
