Germany and Finland both deeply hated the USSR so an alliance made sense at the time. |

More along the lines of, the Russians demanded the Finns re-draw their borders (handing over most of the valuable and inhabited parts of the country), the Finns said "um, NO" and the Soviets invaded Finland in what became known as the "Winter War".
The Russians, frankly, got their asses handed to them because they had no real logistics to speak of and were highly disorganized after purging their officer ranks of "disloyal elements". By the time the Germans invaded Russia, the Finns wanted payback. It's really that simple. |
