I'd been shipping CaraBon for a while, but I'm fine with this too. I'm not so emotionally invested in shipping that I would try and twist what I see in the show to fit my own fanon every time I see something that contradicts it, although unfortunately that's what a lot of shippers do. It's groan-inducing how many comments I've seen trying to dismiss Caramel having a girlfriend just because they want him to be gay, and frankly I find that amount of commitment to be a bit creepy.
Not that I'm a whole lot better-- I still in the back of my mind try to rationalize Big Macintosh as being a potential love interest for Fluttershy, although in my defense this week's episode didn't really do anything to discredit the possibility since the writers made it pretty clear that Big Mac and Cheerilee are just friends at the end of the episode. The episode put CheeriMac on the table as a possibility, but at the same time it didn't really take Fluttermac or most other Mac ships off of the table. If they did decide to blatantly make them be in love at the end though, I would have been supportive. My fanon for this show is always just a placeholder until something official replaces it, although for man fans, fanon = canon, and anything in the show that doesn't match up needs to be dismissed. |
