What I don't get is why everyone is making a big deal about Fluttermac when I've seen Big Macintosh shipped with pretty much everyone. Even Luna and Celestia have been shipped with him! |

Those writers and animators pay WAY MORE attention to the fandom than we think, as you may have seem in previous screenshots how they placed dr.Whooves and Derpy together.
So yeah, they said flutter in purpose xD. There are plenty of things that rhyme with Brother you know. |

Is it wrong that the Fluttermac ship-sinking makes me smile?
Not that I have any huge problems with the ship itself (it's not my favourite pairing), but more that I enjoy watching shippers get butthurt when canon contradicts them. Pass the popcorn! And no, the writers and crew do not give even one shit about this type of stuff. Y'all DO realize that they're contractually forbidden from ever reading fanfic, right? (this restriction does not apply to fanart or youtube vids, though) |

As a self-proclaimed head shipper, though, I have to say that while I accept the ship sinking and don't feel bad that it is gone, I will still somewhat miss the possibility of that ship just a little bit. But now, current OTP = CheeriMac |

I enjoy poking fun at ships as much as anyone, but I don't understand how this episode actually "sunk" anything. All the ships are exactly what they always were; speculative nonsense that will never, ever be touched by a 10-foot pole by the show itself. |

^ True. The end of the episode suggested that they're just friends, so nothing is really off the table. Some people misunderstood the prank they played on the CMC at the end as them actually going on a date, but they made it pretty clear that they were just trolling them. This episode hasn't really changed that much in terms of Big Mac's love life other than that we know that him and Cheerilee are friends.
I really don't expect that we'll get another episode about Big Mac dating anyone though, let alone one of the Mane 6. I get the feeling that this was kind of a once-in-a-blue-moon type thing, because I have a feeling that their attitude is "it's valentine's day, so we'll talk about love in this episode and then we'll be done with it." Frankly, I would be pleasantly surprised if we even get another episode where Big Mac plays this heavily into the story again, let alone one where he's a love interest. That just doesn't seem to be something that the writers are very interested in, but hey, I won't complain if I'm wrong. |

Fluttermac was always a boring ship, it's better off at the bottom of the ocean.
They ended up as just friends at the end, but it was basically set up for them to go on a date. I mean come on, they walked off into the sunset together. Environmental cues, guys! They're totally going to end up being an item. And besides... they got an entire episode's worth of bonding time. You know, that might be a little bit more than two characters who have never spoken a word to each other. |

I'm not saying they definitely aren' going to be paired up again in the future, but the way the episode ended it looked like they were platonic friends, or else the writers would have actually ended it with them going on a date instead of them just joking about it to mess with the kids. |
