@Blaze-Bolt It differs from series to series. Some have weird shades as natural, others have them as died, though they don't point it out in dialogue. For instance, in Martian Successor Nadescio, one character has hair that is clearly green, but in the sequel and a flashback, her hair is clearly black. No one ever says anything about it, but it's clear that she dies it.
Really, it has to do with dying one's hair in Japan being a symbol of expression/individuality or rebellion. In a culture that focuses on social conformity as much as Japan, that's a very bold move. Also, with the original manga versions, artists at one time made the covers colorful (as opposed to the black and white interiors) to attract attention rather than for canonicity. This can be seen in the covers of Ranma 1/2, for instance. Whereas the main character ('s female form) has red hair in the anime, the manga covers show her with red, purple, black, and blue hair. That's the origin, more or less. But today, weird hair colors in anime are more a matter of fact than a statement of any kind. tl;dr version Your guess is as good as mine. |
