I'm in doubt if I should start reading this tbh.
From what I gathered from chapter 1, the main character is lesbian (justified I guess), now my trouble is that all the fanart apparently shows that every pony else is gay for HER as well. And she gets ROBOT ARMS... And to top it off the secondary male character is basically everything else's rape-toy. Then again, that is only based off the first few chapters... |

To clarify though, BJ is bi, she just ends up leaning towards females because of Glory. And not everyone is gay for her, in fact until she becomes a cyborg she becomes less and less sexy as she becomes a blind sack of tumors. It's far from a shipfic anyways. |

Don't read it. As someone who has, it's good up until the chapter where Deus dies.
The #1 thing about this fic is the interaction between P-21 and Blackjack. Sadly, Somber completely throws this away after the first sixteen chapters, throwing Blackjack into one of the most forced romances I have ever had the displeasure of reading. Not to mention, Blackjack is definitely the biggest self-insert I have seen. The last two chapters fucking around with the main character of FO:E has been more than enough to bring that to light. Sadly, all of Somber's fans are incompetent morons who want more LOLESBIAN jokes in their fic than actual characters or character development. My suggestion? Read up until Deus dies then drop it. |

Aww, it doesn't get that bad. But it does get pretty stagnant for a while. And Somber loves fucking his characters up beyond all recognition, even more so than Kkat. Although the most recent (and most horrifying) example made for incredible character development. |

Just because P-21 and Blackjack aren't screwing each other doesn't mean they have no interaction. There's still plenty of scenes where they bond and become closer, just not quite romantically. I also disagree with the BJ/Glory romance feeling forced. It had plenty of buildup throughout the story, and I could see them possibly getting together from miles away. It actually felt more real to me than Pip/Homage, which seemed pretty sudden. I completely agree with the rest of your post, however. |

There are better sidestories, though. Horizons only got so popular because its scope comes close to that of the original story. If nothing else, Somber is as skilled at worldbuilding as Kkat is, and that's saying something.
I humbly suggest Heroes and Misfits. Both are pretty original takes on the mythos and make for good reads. And they're still pretty early on in life, so they haven't become dull and don't seem to be ready to. And there's another one... Guise of Chaos or something like that, which is surprisingly good. At least FO:E gets good spinoffs, unlike Cupcakes. Although it has something to do with source material: FO:E is legendary, whereas Cupcakes is a shitty torture fic. Shit begets shit. |

Last chapter was the most painful thing I have ever read. I am not kidding you when half of it consisted of the words "Blushing" "Threesome" and "kissing".

Again- Read the sidestories I suggested if you're jonesin' for a FO:E read that isn't a broken record. I mean, I'm very forgiving and whatnot, but Horizons is kind of struggling to interest me. I'm only reading it at this point because I'm not one to abandon a story. |

Can sometimes be justified. Misfits' protagonist is gay because she used to be a DUDE. Unity is an asshole. @208 This. I mean, did that many people REALLY want another chapter filled with rape, crucifixion and mutilation? Good fucking God. Yeah, PH has gotten a bit stagnant, but if things had gotten any worse I'm not sure I'd want to keep reading. Last seven or so chapters have been incredibly painful, and 33 was maximum-octane nightmare fuel. The fanservice was a welcome, silly reprieve. |
