A gay person is someone who prefers to have sex a member of the same sex. A fag is an annoying asshole who just gets on everyone nerves and has nothing to do with being gay. This is my personal usage of these words.

that'd be all well and good, but I still feel uncomfortable with people using a slur as something other than a slur and then declaring it's not a slur nigga only worked because it was the targeted group who repurposed it. of course, if this is really homosexual folks doing the repurposing then that's fine and I'll shut my mouth. but otherwise... eh.

Being gay means you prefer your own gender instead of the opposite gender. Being a fag means you go around waving it in everyone's face, hitting on straights even after they've made it clear they're not interested, acting with a persecution complex, and just generally being annoying.
