I have to agree that I'm not sure how headcanon ages of the characters are proof of anything. I think Cheerilee and Big Mac are both a half decade older than the Mane Six, but that doesn't MEAN anything. |

This age thing is so obviously bullshit and violates canon that it hurts.
All of the mane 6 got their cuties marks at the same time. Cheerilee was in school with Rarity, she was obviously a filly at that point. Big Mac on the other hand was already the size of a grown pony (compare him to Granny Smith when Applejack leaves the farm for Manehattan) even though he was clearly not an adult yet. TL;DR: Mane six and Cheerilee are around the same age, Big Mac is older than any of them. |

@560: The actual age is of course unknown and irrelevant, since we're talking about ponies, not humans and we don't even know for sure how long years are in Equestria, considering Celestia moves the sun instead of the Earth orbiting around the Sun, which is our basis for years.
We can still assess their ages based on childhood/adolescence/adulthood, though. |

Hey, considering that the entire pony school curriculum seems to be "get your cutie marks and try not to unleash chaos deities", I don't think Cheerilee would have to be older than any of the mane 6 to teach children. |

Big Mac is Applejack's big brother, and Applejack is somewhere around the same age as Rarity, who is in turn around the same age as Cheerilee. So, it's all probably fine. |

Faust said she deliberately made the character's ages ambiguous for story telling purposes and we can consider the characters any age that we want. |

@Anon645 It's hardly even close to being the same thing. Rarity is a pony while Spike is a dragon that will live to be many times the span of her life... hundreds if not thousands of years (if a dragon's nap can last for a hundred years, I'm thinking thousands). And that much is established canon.
Ship whatever you want, but I personally think Rarispike is a ridiculous pairing (for that reason among others). |

If dragons live for thousands of years that would mean that spike's baby stage would last for quite a while whithout going into a greedy dragon maybe he will slowly grow into a true dragon. |

Remember the first change that happened to Spike in "The Secret of My Excess"? He became all gangly, and his voice got deeper? If it wasn't already obvious beforehand that Spike was prepubescent, that pretty much closes the deal. Give Spike another 7-10 years, and then I'm OK with him being with Rarity, despite all the differences between them. (Though I'm still of the opinion it's just a puppy-love crush that he would grow out of, I don't have any objections if someone wants to interpret it differently.)
Otherwise, as long as a division is kept between the obvious young fillies/colts (e.g., Applebloom, Snails) and the rest of the cast, I think the ages are flexible enough that they don't matter when it comes to shipping. |

Personally, Spike X Rarity is really adorable IMO- We all have seen a little kid fall in love with his older sisters friends. Spike may be a "baby" dragon, but when your age can be effected by how greedy you get, that's all sort of relative. Besides, he's got the mentality of a 6-8 year old kid
As for Big Mac and Cheerilee, even if Cherilee and Rarity are around the same age, how much older could Big Mac be? Personally he seemed like a young teen when the mane 6 were little fillies, so... what, like 5 years older max? I've seen people in relationships with THAT age difference And I don't GET where the Cherilee being 30 and Big Mac being 18 stuff came from. |

I don't have a problem with Spike X Rarity when it's kept to a sweet crush thing either (mostly one-sided from Spike, with tender indulgence from Rarity). It's when people start to ship them SERIOUSLY that it annoys me. Or, even worse when they try to claim something more serious is canon... I fail to see how Secret of my Excess proved anything like that. |

This makes no fukking sense guys, they probably did it just like with the Derpy filly: an accident or joke or something. Why does it make no sense? Because Cheerilee was an adolescent or teen in the 80s-equivalent, meaning she has to be at least 30. Spike was born around the same time Cheerilee was supposedly in the play, making him something like 20 years old. 20 year old Spike...you really think that's plausible? |

I think that Rarity (and for that matter the others in the main 6) are about 20 (relative to human lifespans, and give or take 2 or 3 years between them all), Big mac between 25 and 30, and Cheerilee older than the main 6, but younger than Big Mac, Spike is a little over one year old, his first birthday was in the first season (although he seems to be more mature than the cutie mark crusaders, but less than the main 6, maybe a mid teen in maturity), and the cutie mark crusaders are maybe 10. |
