GSHgunner: Since the only alicorns to have appeared in the show so far are Celestia and Luna, the assumption by nearly all fans is that all alicorns are insanely powerful. Thus, when someone creates a pony with both wings and a horn, many or most of the show's fans automatically assume it's a "Mary Sue" character. (To quote TV Tropes: "In other words, the term "Mary Sue" is generally slapped on a character who is important in the story, possesses unusual physical traits, and has an irrelevantly over-skilled or over-idealized nature.") Do what you want to do, just be aware that making your character an alicorn and showing him (apparently) kissing Fluttershy is going to automatically tick a lot of people off. |

You really shouldn't put both wings and a horn on your OC. Not to mention black and red OCs are a bit cliche. Try picking a less common color scheme and choosing either wings or a horn, but not both.
Try going with red and orange, or red and yellow. Those are "tough" color schemes that won't get you flamed for being a Mary Sue. |

^^ It's not so much the super deep black/red being common as it is completely out of style with the colors the show tends to use. Stick to more pastel-type colors and you should be okay. Even Big Mac's red coat has a lighter hue to it. |
