Rainbow Dash seems like the kind of girl who would try to cut off ties with her parents and be independent as soon as she was old enough to leave home.
She probably just never wanted them to know/worry about her. Parents fawning over her would not look awesome. /speculation |

How about an "embarassing parents" episode? But rather than the parents actually being a bit odd with Rarity and Granny, it would be about only their kid feeling so? Teen/young pony independence episode? |

Oooh, oooh! Maybe RD's parents are actually the badassest badasses in all of Equestria, and she pushes herself so hard to prove herself in their eyes? And she did not want them to see her injured, so she made sure not to contact them in any way. Because being injured like that is decidedly unbadass. |

None of the main pegasus characters have ever revealed any relatives. We don't know who Scootaloo is related to despite Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle having deliberate mentions to being related to AJ and Rarity respectively.
Fluttershy has never shown any relatives either. Its like its being avoided on purpose. |
