the only picture of her on the ENTIRE INTERNET apparently.
"Candy May is an incredibly dim child, who appears to cut her own hair, and wears a shirt with a unicorn decal. She has long red hair in a ribbon. She hesitates a lot, draws her words out and often confuses herself. She isn’t allowed near sharp objects and loves playing with glitter and paste. She may be older than the other kids and is unsurprisingly the tallest child in the classroom, since she could have been held back a year due to her unintelligence. She refuses to believe two plus two equals four because she thinks that since two times two equals four, two plus two must equal a smaller number (her examples of numbers smaller than four are three and five)." So... yeah. Doesn't mean anything but dammit, I found an example of a female version of this kind of character. That has to count for something |

Yeah it was apparently just sitting in the back of my mind when I was reading some derpy outrage stuff, and a note on how all the examples given for other characters like this like Goofy, Stimpy, etc were all guys, and somehow I managed to remember "Wait wasn't there a character in like, Angela Anaconda who was really dumb?"
SO I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE INTERNETS TO FIND EVIDENCE AND PUT TOGETHER AN INFORMATIONAL IMAGE. Like any normal, rational person would do. |

Wait a minute she has a unicorn on her shirt I didn't even really have to add Derpy to have an obligatory pony |
| DeeperMadness #963804 5 months ago |
Candy May sounds like a pony's name as it is. |

Now that I think about it, i'm pretty sure Angela had a lesbian crush on Nanette Manoir. Seriously, she never shuts the hell up about how much she hates her (so much so she does it in the damn theme song). She totally has Football Head Syndrome for Nanette. |

Angela Anaconda? Geez I feel old for remembering that. |

At this point, the Derpy 'outrage' is just a manufactured thing. I would not be surprised if fringe MLP fans or even dedicate MLP haters brought about a way to attack in such a way using a 'justification'.
It's more about attacking the fandom and the show than anything legitimate. That's how I see this. Again, the best way is to appeal to the studios and Hasbro that the vast majority of fans can't be fooled, and neither should they. |

I agree that it's manufactured. I even recall a mention of how the letters were received when people sent in apologies for those who disliked Derpy. They had no idea what was being talked about. In their minds people were apologizing for something that never happened. All of these petitions people are making? They will be met with confusion as no one will have any idea what we're rambling on about because of all of our baseless assumptions. Do you know who are bringing the most attention to the whole "Derpy is offensive" thing? Panicking morons who want to "save Derpy". Please everyone, just think. Now as to my personal opinion, I don't care about Derpy one bit. I was not in the fanbase when she was created and it wasn't the fanbase that got me to watch the show. I had no idea it was popular. I don't think they should remove what they've already implemented, but I see no point for anger at those who disliked Derpy's portrayal. It was decent, if a bit fan-servicey. Though that voice... I suppose it fits her origins as an error, given that the voice actress didn't even know her gender when she came up with it, but it was cringe-inducing half the time though the other half was good. But generally I'm just neutral on the whole thing, she has nothing to do with why I like the show. I have no attachment to her character as the fans created it and the name means nothing to me. As to those fans who disapproved of her, well I don't see any reason why to dislike them for any other reason ten being the type of fans who overreact to things. Which means I rate them equally with the rest of the fans who've overreacted in the opposite direction. I still respect those I respected before for whatever respect worthy work they've done and will not be pressured into disliking anyone. I am mildly annoyed, but I like to at least hold onto Tolerance when I'm not feeling like Love. So relax and enjoy yourselves. If this issue is of importance to you, which I assume it is, then gather solid factual information on the matter and utilize it to create a fully rational response if one is actually required. With little more then speculation and rumors, with plenty of assumptions included, any petition formed or letter written will likely be meaningless as it could easily fail to miss the real issue entirely and just attract attention to the concept that "Derpy" could be construed as offensive. And with that, have a nice day. Hoping the next episode is awesome and that everyone will forget about this long enough for it to blow over. On second thought, I probably sound patronizing but I'll just post this anyways. |

The only pic on the internet, cyber95, because Fox crushed all the rest, enforcing the show's copyright. Most of the fan-sites were using images downloaded off the main Fox website, however. I do remember the show, and the fandom that followed it. When it moved to one of the Fox cable channels, it was tough to catch episodes. Then they pulled the show off the air, deleted the website, like it didn't exist. A few fans tried to revive the closed website, but Fox slapped them down.
Good thing Hasbro's not like that, huh? |

I agree. Even those artists who brought it up to the forefront, I'll eventually forgive them. I have no open ill will, I just think they made a big fuss out of nothing and the fans get the brunt of it. It's not fair. Maybe some day they'll realize it's all much about nothing, and the drama didn't do anybody any good. Also, I have to blame some of this on the hyper critical nature we saw from the fandom recently. Speaking in depth about RELIGION, Fairness towards CARTOON VILLAINS, Economic discussions, discussions towards romance/shipping and world lore and 'out of character' depictions? Holy Celestia, people need to shut up and just let this cartoon be a cartoon and enjoy it from the outside instead of pretending the world is ours to mold explicitly or that real world rules actually apply. Yet again, hyper dedicated geeks of a show goes too far and takes 'ownership' of it and get morally righteous. This should just NOT happen. More people need to call this crap out and just tell them to f'n relax. It's a cartoon. |
