Hell, Derpy isn't even stupid, she's just super-clumsy. That said, it's a little ridiculous the way Derpy is being singled out. There are actual stupid characters on MLP already. But Snips and Snails are both boys, and no one complains. |

There does seem to be a dearth of silly or dumb female cartoon characters compared to male ones (I view Derpy as just silly or clumsy until proven wrong). This could just be, at least partially, due to most characters with significant screen time being male though. |

Buh? You seem to have confused hiding something with pointing it out. If you refer to the crotch gun, it's an attempt to keep a volatile discussion light-hearted using ridiculousness. The point being that things get blown out of proportion here, in America (as PowerToole reminded me me many of you aren't). Especially by the... I call them Crusade-a-Nannies. These are the people who took away tag and dodgeball from schools, propagated 'stranger-danger', and spend so much time fighting causes that their own children get neglected and forced to take medication to solve problems that actual parenting could have solved. Ever see pictures of parents walking their kids on leashes? _Those_are_real_! We can't get rid of it. It's too entrenched into our society. Only a catastrophe that takes our culture with it will work. Until the problems all this stuff causes accomplishes that, the most we can do is attempt to limit the damage. Tracing its beginnings possibly all the way to Kimmy Gibbler on Full House and Kelly from Married With Children. Those're the farthest ones back I can remember. The incredibly stupid male is a recent crossover from animation, before that the dads are capable but utterly insane in some way, like Tim Allen and his goddamn power tools.
