@996
Due to bellyaching about "abelism" or some such, there's some rumblings that Hasbro will display typical PR cowardice and do something to Derpy. No one knows exactly what it might be.

Some people thought that she was an offensive stereotype of the mentally handicapped.

And as always, the mere mention of the word "offensive" drew a horde of raging bullies out of the cracks to bash the thoughtcrime of acknowledging offense out of existence.

So no one was offended of Zecora being a African stereotype, Apple family being a pure western/southern stereotype, twi a stereotypical nerd, rainbow dash with tomboy tendencies, etc?

People need to fucking relax.

Honestly? Let it end.

As has been brought up in this argument oh so often, while it was made so that adults CAN enjoy it, it is first and foremost a kids show. That means while they had no obligation to do a shout out to bronies, it also means they have no obligation to leave it in either. Having seen the childishness of some people on both sides of this argument, I think it's best if the whole thing just die as soon as possible, and if that means removing the scene, so be it. It's not worth the bullshit either way.

We had already gotten acknowledgement, anyway. The fact that they kept Derpy with the crosseyes and that she became a recurring background character was because of the fact that we enjoyed it. Not to mention the shout out in Equestria Girls. Honestly, I think that's more than enough.

^ The "easily offended" are a myth. Some people find X offensive, other people find Y offensive. And some people who find Y offensive, but not X, belittle those who are offended by X for being higher on the linear sensetivity scale, but when Y comes up, that logic goes right out the window and they show their own offense proudly and angrily.

I just want Derpy to be Derpy.

I don't have anything to say about anyone really.

I just want this to stay as a sign that we as fans love the animators and everyone else whom works on the show. We enjoyed the gift given to us and we'd do anything for more.

Only if you assume that human emotions have no value. Otherwise, it does matter that people might be offended by things.

@Sono: Yes, there were people offended by Zecora. Don't really care to root around on the internet to try to find examples, but they're out there. Same as people who were offended by the buffalo in "Over a Barrel".

Those aren't really comparable. They're stereotypes, but they're not negative stereotypes, and the characters are still portrayed as people.

Yes, Acute, but you don't seem their episodes being taken down or their scenes cut. Which further shows hypocrisy on hasbros part.

@957198: Good point, however, I made the point elsewhere of, think Patrick Star, wouldn't he be the definition of a negative stereotype for "dumb" or "autisitic" people? And he's a main character, not a side character.

You could argue since it's a girls show they have to keep that out, but that's sexist as it implies only girls are susceptible to negative stereotypes (and girls watch spongebob as well).

Same anon here. I agree that people are overreacting about Derpy, but I also see where they're coming from. I think they went too far in how much they exaggerated her character traits. But then, I don't like "actively dumb" characters in general. If people make bad decisions because itfits their character traits, that's good writing, but stupidity itself is not a character trait; people don't do things simply because they're dumb, though many real-life people seem to think they do.

@Sono or maybe it shows that more people are complaining and hasbro thought "oops, maybe we really did fuck up here"

but fuck it, anyone who messes with derpy is clearly motivated by nothing but evil and lies, we really need to get a mob together and put them all to the torch

right

guys

COME ON

This is true. But what I found in Last Roundup is, what Derpy did wasn't necessarily stupid, just clumsy or something a ditz would do (Ditzy Doo hurr hurr).

^ Don't joke about that. Some people seem to honestly believe it, and we really don't need to support their mob.

Opinions are fine, but we're talking about cartoons here. Cartoons had FULL RETARD characters for time immemorial. Also, there's people like that in REAL LIFE. The thing we should do is not say those types shouldn't be portrayed, but that they be treated as normal as possible. If they do bad things or mess up, we should call upon them, not baby them or patronize. The fact that Derpy even has multiple jobs, some of them even hazardous, it just shows that Ponyville is pretty accepting of her even being there.

If you want to overthink things, how about overthink it in a positive light for once? Get over it haters. It's not about 'bullying' the opposing voice here. People just pick and choose the stupidest things to get up in arms about.

Does anybody remember Scooby-Dumb? Why can't they protest him? If anything they're the same thing. Crazy eyes, clumsiness, slow speech. Remember the good old days when we had metal toys and playgrounds and cartoons could carry guns. These things has obviously made us unfit to live in this world-OH wait no we turned out pretty stable...despite watching ponies.

Easily offended is not a myth, it is fact.
What is worse though, is when people, like now get offended by non issues that can not be offensive.
