I've never been a big fan of Derpy but seriously, this crusade has to stop. Derpy was nothing more than a nod to the fandom by the show producers. With all the bitching and moaning coming from the fandom, I would be honestly surprised if the writers and animators want to keep going with this. |

I think the people who complain about Derpy being offensive to the mentally disabled are those who have a history of being sensitive to the issues of the mentally disabled, which is admirable. However, because of this history, they're the ones that have to witness or experience slurs, prejudice, and cruelty. When you experience cruelty, you're more likely to see cruelty in the world, whether or not (in this case, I think "not") it is actually there. Because of this, I can understand where at least some of them are coming from, which is not to say I appreciate it or think it's appropriate. Regardless, ridiculing them (and showing them more cruelty) is not the way to go, I think. They caused a mess when they assumed malice, and instead of constructively reaching out and looking to improve the situation, they condemned without fully understanding made Hasbro / Studio B / whoever was in charge freak out and consider the fandom unstable. We shouldn't make their mistakes. |

There's the "pro-Derpy" group, who like her and don't think her depiction was offensive. Then there's the "pro-bullying" group, who are offended by offendedness and wish everyone would pretend that hurt feelings don't exist so they can indulge in cruelty without being called out on it. |
