Don't start a war, please.... |

^ To me it's about the same with the old ones, but with the new ones Anon is right. |

I agree with Zancrow, #236. Both franchises are awesome! |

Ahh, yeah, I just heard the "level up" theme. |
| Dachimotsu #951354 5 months ago |
I know everything about Final Fantasy and nothing about Dragon Quest.
I guess it's time for me to start a new series, huh? |
| Anonymous #951364 5 months ago |
It's basically Final Fantasy, but once they started getting decent localization teams it turned into "Final Fantasy plus British humor and flankloads of puns." |
| gashunk #951385 5 months ago |
Well actually, the first dragon quest (dragon warrior in english releases) was pretty much the bare bones example of a jrpg. One character, no parties, very few weapons and armor, super mario brothers esque storyline and lots and lots of grinding.
I personally prefer it over the original final fantasy but I like it when games keep things simple. |
| CallMeAl #951391 5 months ago |
At least it's not Phantasy Star. |
| Dragoon #951417 5 months ago |
^ The Phantasy Star series are pretty good too |
| Zancrow #951425 5 months ago |
I like FF as a series more but DQ 8 is one of the best games I've ever played!
And we don't have to forget that without Dragon Quest there wouldn't be any Final Fantasy ;) |
| CallMeAl #951430 5 months ago |
Only IV. II was good if you enjoy drawing maps, backtracking and NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT WHATSOEVER.
I grew up playing II. |

Yeah Phantasy Star IV was really good. II was pretty tedious, and I and III were downright painful.
Phantasy Star I was basically the sum total of everything that was wrong with old-timey JRPG's. Seriously though, Phantasy Star IV was awesome. |
| Dragoon #951506 5 months ago |
@CallMeAl
I never played the other Phantasy Star games(besides the new ones). I think I have and played IV, it's somewhere in my house. But I know what you mean. |

Bleh, I tried playing Dragon quest 8 but, I honestly couldn't get over half way through the game, I didn't like it much, was the DS one any good? |
| Littlecabbit #951820 5 months ago |
and I only ever played the Phantasy star ones that were ported to the game-cube, so I guess I can't say much about them |
| Anonycat #951833 5 months ago |
FFFFUUU- I read OP's pic with Luna's voice. |
| Anonymous #951878 5 months ago |
Littlecabbit:
The DS Dragon Quest was really love it or hate it. They tailored the game really heavily for multiplayer, so they beefed up item crafting, postgame/questing, and character customization. But at the same time your party is completely player-created and there's no camaraderie or anything, it's got a lot of arbitrary "the game hates you" things, and the exposition fairy that follows you around is one of the most irritating creatures you'll ever see. |
| Anonymous #951910 5 months ago |
So I guess it's like pretty much every JRPG ever. Vast improvements in one area while needlessly breaking others. |

Dragon Quest (Warrior) III was ridiculously fun at the time. There was a huge world to explore, tons of different classes with unique equipment, a class change system, just an all around amazing game for something on the NES. I didn't like later games in the series because I don't like games where most of the characters battle with AI (because AI is generally anything but intelligent), and while I did play DQ I and II they were too rudimentary for me compared to Final Fantasy. Overall I still like Final Fantasy more, although I gave up on that series three games ago. |
| mysterypony1 #952570 5 months ago |
Can I like both? |
| MackTheKnife #952670 5 months ago |
Anytime I see Ye Odle Butchred Englishe, I keep going back to this image. And yes, it is funnier when you read it in Luna's voice.
Also, I apologize in advance if you don't return tonight. |

One thing Dragon Quest did get right over Final Fantasy (for a while at least) is that status effects were actually kinda useful. |
| thps48 #997823 5 months ago |
Whatever works, yo.
The bosses of both series all have mental issues, and that's what makes me play both. >:D |
