Because it looks fucking ridiculous and is completely asynchronous with the style of any other character drawn the same way. For Rarity, Fluttershy, Twilight, Pinkie, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Colgate- those white dots aren't pupils. But then suddenly for derpy, they are treated as such. They're flipped around. Either that means they're pupils for the rest (and they're all looking really weirdly at their own foreheads, constantly, in every drawing), or derpy has insanely shaped eyes that look like ovals from this angle but are in reality stretched, contorted, and deformed enough that a single light source can produce a reflection on one side of one eye and another side of the other. Both are stupid explanations!

Art: Serious business Compromising an art style the way people do with derpy is ridiculous, I really don't think it's that absurd to be frustrated by. All sorts of people like to use the "solid color, little light reflection" thing (some with two lights on each eye, DEFINITELY not pupils), and then they draw derpy...and they flop those little lights around and it's ridiculous and compromises the design for every other drawing.

Those are reflections, the thing is that Derpy eyes concaveness differs from eye to eye: Top view: (right eye HEAD )left eye HEAD Therefore making the highlight appear on the other side for that specific eye.

Or developing the style enough that it's possible- for example, maybe the colored iris is on a non-colored sclera, like in some cartoons. Then, you could wooble the ovals themselves. But altering the style such that it messes with all the other drawings- treating them as pupils when they are not treated as pupils for any other character- is silly. It does not make sense, it compromises the style, and it's short-sighted design. It is asynchronous with every other image, and they're all obviously supposed to be in the same style, so...it just makes no sense.

Hell, considering the lack of detail on MLP:FiM, her eyes could be like that, and tracing a line from the center of eye curve to pupil would end in the same place for both eyes!
