You know I wonder if the reason Celestia can't use the Elements of Harmony anymore is because she used them against her own sister, however noble her intentions were.

In my headcanon, the elements were meant for the Mane 6, but due to the fact that they weren't even close to existing yet, the princesses, sharing a distant bond with the creator of the Elements, could use them, except neither Celestia or Luna knows that. |

^ Interesting how Chaos is the exact opposite of Harmony. In fact in Sonic 1, there were only 6 emeralds.
In my headcanon, the elements of harmony were destined to be truly awakened by a one of potentially greater power then Celestia's, one who was born with 6 colors of hair each representing an element and each bond of friendship, as well as the true form of the Elements of Harmony. When Rainbow Dash created the first Sonic Rainboom, the Era of Light(Celestia's) ended, and the Era of Harmony and Destiny began(The Mane Six). |
