Zebras are the equivalent of Africans. Emphasis on "African" and not "Black".
Even then almost no fanart makes any emphasis on Twilight being of African-descent. Dark skin does not equal Black. |

If you really want an answer, I think it has something to do with her color scheme. Lots of darker colors (purple, violet) that I guess people thought would sync well with darker skin. Some might consider that a silly reason, but what's a good reason to assign a race to a particular character? It's pretty much an arbitrary choice with any attempt at rationalization coming up a bit short. |
