This is really getting stupid,
Shouldn't she be proud of her? For being honest? Is the friendship report really that important to Celestia?

"Proud of her"? Maybe. Unfortunately, Applejack presented the letter like a jerk. She actually said, "HA!" to the princess. She then used the fact that she didn't learn anything to prove that Celestia has nothing to teach her.

A more appropriate letter might say, "Dear Celestia, today I was able to teach a valuable lesson in friendship to some strangers that came to our town ..." Instead, Applejack decided to troll Celestia.

Applejack was worried until her friends came and helped her, but nooo, "I was right all along".

^She was right that the Apple's cider was much better than Flim&Flam's. Actually, I'm pretty sure Celestia's reaction was something like:
"Well, that's new!" *laughs*

^Was it? Was the Apple's cider better? Their "good" stuff was only ever tasted once, by Granny Smith. Look at her reaction when she tastes it. Does she look disgusted? Does she look smugly superior? No ... she looks WORRIED, as in "Oh, crap, this stuff tastes just fine." It wasn't until Flim&Flam got cocky and stupid that they lowered the quality.

As far as the lesson thing. The story could have easily been reworked so that Flim and Flam DID learn a lesson. Instead, the ponies who specialize in FRIENDSHIP just run another bunch of ponies out of town. Okay, they didn't "run Trixie out of town", but they never tried to be her friend, either. They DID run that dragon out of town, though.

Pinkie actually GAVE them a friendly solution to that dragon. "That doesn't sound healthy, maybe he needs a doctor", but that option was never explored. Instead they attack him, and chase him out. "Friendship" ... yeah right.

These ponies never actually go with a "friendly" solution to their problems. In the Wild West, Pinkie was (again) the only pony that even TRIED such a tactic.

Celestia has lost all the passion in her trolling, it seems.

@togashimenai: Technically they didn't run the Flim Flam brothers out of town either, they skipped town when they realized no one wanted their cider. And they *did* make friends with the dragon after Fluttershy got him to stop attacking them. She even apologized for Rainbow Dash having kicked him, which didn't happen until after Twilight, Pinkie and Rarity had all tried being nice (though admittedly Rarity screwed it up in her case). He also left on his own.

Anyway I don't think it would be a very good lesson if they were able to just make friends with all of their antagonists, that's not how things work most of the time.

I want to see some stuff with both Appletroll/Trolljack and Trollestia
