Lyra's already branded as the wanna-be human, the Bon Bon waifu, and (to a lesser extent, sadly) the overly-excitable pony; all that's probably enough to keep her from getting too heavily branded as the cider pony, especially since several dozen other ponies said the same thing. |

The point was kind of that it doesn't make sense for Derpy to be "The Muffin Pony" more than it was suggesting that Lyra is somehow obsessed with Cider. Derpy was in a room with a dozen other ponies who were all saying "ooh, muffins!" but for some reason Derpy was the one everyone picked to be the "muffin pony," even though there was nothing unique about the fact that she was one of the ponies saying it. |

The fans were still developing Derpy's personality at that point, so it seemed like a cute idea to make her obsessed with muffins, Lyra's personality's pretty much as fleshed out as it's going to be by the fans, and Berry Punch is the one that's considered the town drunk so~ |

If Mare Do Well aired before Sisterhooves, Sparkler could've become jam pony or babysitter pony. However, as soon as she became big sister pony the role slot was filled.
I figure there is one slot for each background pony, two for popular ones and once those are filled no further improvements can be made. |

True, but as other people pointed out, Derpy really didn't have anything to latch onto for a personality before that scene, so fans latched onto "muffins" the way a starving dog latches onto a steak. It's completely silly, and in my headcanon she's not obsessed with muffins, but as long as it's not done badly I don't have a problem with it. |
